
Lighting, video and production designer Abbey Rosen Holmes of Nyx Design
takes over the helm of the PMC@LDI (replacing Bob Bonniol) as the
creative consultant for the sixth Live Design Projection Master Classes
at LDI2011...an annual visual design event you won't want to miss! Join Abbey and a roster of top projection pros—including hot visual designer Vello Virkhaus of V Squared Labs—on
October 26 and 27, 2011 for two days of piping hot technology and some
of the world’s sexiest applications of innovative imagery. From
projectors and projection mapping to case studies of the coolest
projects ever, the PMC@LDI is intermediate to advanced training for
those working in lighting and projection design. (Newbies should take
LDI’s Projection 101 on Tuesday, October 25 as an intro to these

Vello Virkhaus of the renowned visual arts company, V Squared Labs, will discuss his collaboration with digital
music artist, Amon Tobin, on a highly ambitious, large-scale, next-level HD experience to promote his recent
release ISAM. Projection mapping, and generative/audio reactive real time and pre-rendered elements combined
with custom software to control the visuals, make the ISAM show creatively intricate and technologically advanced.

Designing a Video System

Get to the heart of a video system and learn to connect the dots between various devices in what comes between the projector and playback: An in-depth technical discussion whose topics include matrixing, live inputs, output management, and systems design and installation. Including the system design for Immersive Arts at DUMBO, a large scale achetectural installation, and the San Jose biennial project created by architect David Rockwell.

The 2011 Academy Awards, or Oscars, were broadcast live from Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre on a set designed
with multiple layers of visual imagery and traveling screens. Join Dave Taylor of SenovvA, who designed the
large projection rig, using Green Hippo Hippotizers, Barco projectors, and a PRG automated winch system, and
programmer Jason Rudolph for an in-depth case study of this benchmark production.
