Looking Back at LDI 2007 and Forward to LDI 2008 in Las Vegas

LDI 2007 in Orlando, FL was a huge success, as more attendees than ever came to celebrate LDI’s exciting 20th anniversary in November 2007. The leading US tradeshow and conference for live design professionals, LDI’s show floor was filled with thousands of lighting, audio, projection, special effects, staging, and rigging products as well as services offered by 400 exhibiting companies from around the globe. One unique feature of the tradeshow—with particular appeal for audio equipment buyer—is ET Live, a realistic outdoor concert setting featuring three days of audio equipment demos.

Every year LDI also offers a wide range of professional training options, including exclusive insider tours of hot new attractions and interesting venues, and LDI2007 was no exception. Backstage Orlando participants toured SeaWorld at night and went backstage at Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba theatre, toured the new Blue Man Group theater at Universal Studio’s Citywalk, spent a day backstage at Disney World and—for the first time ever—enjoyed a tour and special church service at the magnificent 160,000 square foot $38.4 million Northland Church. The LDInstituteÔ offered total immersion opportunities for those with specific interests in the very latest in media servers, consoles, software and rigging/electrical courses that offered ETCP recertification credit. Conference attendees selected from a broad menu of sessions in production techniques, engineering for entertainment, new technologies for houses of worship, lasers, corporate theater and events, sound, show control, and the lighting/projection summit in the state-of-the-art PRG Technology Lab, plus the second annual Live Design Projection Master Classes at LDI (presented by Live Design Magazine).

LDI’s annual awards honor the best in debuting products, booth design, the Wally Russell Award winners, and outstanding individuals.   This year’s awards were presented to an impressive array of individuals and companies. To read a detailed description of the winners, Click Here.

LDI2007 continued to build on the 20-year partnership with ESTA, whose presence is interwoven throughout vital areas of the show, most noticeably in the ESTA Technical Updates offered as part of the conference program. In support of The ESTA Foundation’s Behind the Scenes, LDI sponsored a lively Texas Hold’Em competition. Behind the Scenes provides financial support to entertainment technology industry professionals when they are ill or injured. Local Orlando companies as well as LDI exhibitors such as Neutrik and Littlite contributed prizes for the winners.

All the fantastic features of LDI 2007—including the great professional training options, the expansive exhibit hall floor and ET Live—will be part of LDI2008 in Las Vegas, with some new and exciting additions to the show on the drawing board. We’re looking forward to seeing you in Las Vegas, with the LDInstitute and Backstage Las Vegas kicking things off on October 20, 2008 and the exhibit floor open on October 24-26, 2008. It’s a sure bet for another great show!
